Mission

Our mission is to act as a link between all European and Middle Eastern countries in an effort to launch actions establishing dialogue, restoring mutual respect and enhancing relationship throughout the Mediterranean area. The Institute considers the convergence of Europe with the countries in the Middle East of great importance. Indeed, the Mediterranean basin has been the very place where the most important political systems were devised and implemented, where basic economic theories were crafted and where the endurance of the biggest empires was tested. Such a goal can be achieved by knowing and understanding better the heritage and the history of the Mediterranean populations.

The Institute's action is interwoven to a large extent with the very specific characteristics of its premises' locality and neighborhood. The neighboring Imaret and the House of Mohamed Ali - both the property of Egypt - have been fully restored with great respect to their original style and heritage. Attributed to a new use, they contribute substantially to the Institute's effort to bring about cultural interaction in the Mediterranean. The revival and operation of these two fine monuments of the Arab World situated in the threshold of modern Europe and the East, constitutes an optimistic example and at the same time a proof of the possibility of harmonious cohabitation of the two cultures.
